**St Muredach's PAST PUPILS UPDATE - 1961 Team who made the final**

A member of the 1966 squad, Eamonn Walkin, popped into the college this week for a chat and kindly brought along this picture.

Mr Walsh has thoroughly enjoyed hearing the stories of the past from all those in the St Muredach's Golf Society (Dublin based), Eamonn, Pat, John and Pat McManus. From the game played in a blizzard in Tubbercurry where Fr Nallen gave the boys resin to put on their hands instead of gloves (to avoid frostbite with gloves), to the red and white paper hats worn to games, the boarders getting walked through the town in pairs up to the Stephenites for games, seniors setting up buses to away games to the two lads who used to cycle in to school - one from Enniscrone and the other from Bonniconlon - both lads on the same day would claim "the wind was against me the whole way.." despite coming from different directions.

The Captain of the 1966 team Andy Boland also spoke with Mr Walsh this week to provide more detail about the 1966 team, the games they played and their subsequent removal from the competition by the principal in 1966. Despite the protests from the captain, players and the coach Fr Nallen, they didn't get to fulfil their destiny. More importantly he wanted to share his best wishes to the current players and gave some messages which have been passed to the management team.

All roads lead to Bekan on Friday evening with throw in due at 7pm.

We will need every supporter in the town and surrounding area to be our 16th man. We know that so many past students, family members and friends of the players and college made an effort to get their despite the conditions on Saturday. We need the same on Friday night!

Lastly - In the 60s, the following would be sung by all the students and supporters at the games - it would be mighty to bring this back to life with some success this week and achieve something special!!!

Up the left wing

Up the centre every time..
When we meet them
We will beat them
